Description
Core Responsibilities and Duties
- Recording Transactions: Tracking, categorizing, and posting daily financial data (sales, expenses, receipts) into the general ledger.
- Reconciliation: Reconciling bank and credit card statements to ensure accuracy, usually on a monthly basis.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Processing invoices, paying vendors, and managing customer accounts to ensure timely payments.
- Payroll Processing: Managing employee pay, withholdings, and payroll taxes.
- Financial Reporting: Generating reports such as balance sheets and income statements for business owners.
- Compliance: Assisting with tax preparation, BAS (Business Activity Statements), and ensuring data follows financial regulations.
Requirements
- Software Proficiency: Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or Excel.
- Data Entry Skills: High accuracy and speed in data entry.
- Knowledge of Accounting: Understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Detail-Oriented: Ability to identify discrepancies and errors in records.
Work Environment: Bookkeepers typically work in office settings, though many roles are now remote or hybrid. They may work for a single company, for an accounting firm, or as independent contractors, often working standard business hours.
